Setting goals and getting things done

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but it’s MAY, and it’s time to take stock of all those goals you set for yourself back in January.

I know, I know, pandemic, homeschooling, crisis — all true. BUT. There IS a solid process you can use to make sure you HIT the goals you set for yourself even when things are crazy. And if you can master that process now, imagine how you’ll rock it out when we’re done with all the crazy.

There are no more excuses thanks to COVID-19

I was feeling a little down last night, mama.

I started thinking about all the things I was supposed to do and the places I was going to go…

Utah, to speak at the amazing Kathryn Jones’ live event.

Idaho, to speak on stage and celebrate the live launch of Traffic Secrets with my Internet crush, Russell Brunson.

Oklahoma, to visit Justin’s mother.

I watched my kids have quarantine birthdays, which — let’s be honest — suck. It’s no fun to not have a party and be the center of attention when you’re turning 6 or 8… or 34.

What happens when a worldwide pandemic shuts down all of your plans? Lauren Golden of The Free Mama is talking about learning to adjust.

We have no idea if our RV trip is still on.

We have no idea if swim team is happening.

If you know me, I’m all about finding the win-win-win, and with Coronavirus, it feels like everything is lose, lose, lose, and that’s… frustrating

So, yes. I threw myself a bit of a pity party. I let myself feel sad for Kathryn and Russell and Justin’s mom, and Daphne and Henry and Audrey and Justin…

…and for myself.

There may have been ice cream and wine.

I took my hour to sulk.

And then it was time to pick myself up and move on.

As much as it pains me to say it, there are things in this world that are out of my control, and it’s about learning to adjust. For a Type A++++ mama, that’s a hard pill to swallow.

Here’s the thing, though. I don’t let those things define me. Sure, I can’t control the Coronavirus. Yeah, if we can’t go on our RV trip, it will be disappointing. I might even use some words, in the shower, where my children can’t hear me.

But that doesn’t mean we’ll never go on an RV trip.

It just means that we’ll have to adjust and refine our plan. We’ll have to adapt and navigate learning to adjust, like I talked about a few weeks ago.

I guess what I’m trying to say, mama, is that just because you don’t get to [fill in the blank with the thing that Coronavirus took from you] right now, doesn’t mean that you never will. You WILL get there — but it will probably look a little bit different from the way you imagined it.

It’s okay to feel your feelings, and to be disappointed, and to indulge yourself with your treat of choice.

It’s not okay to give up forever.

So, let’s close this out on a high note.
