In some way or another, you probably took on the role of teacher for your kids back in the year that shall not be named.
For several months, my husband and I homeschooled our kids…and boy, does my hat go off to all the other families who found themselves in similar situations!
I had this idea to turn the tables a little bit and do a Free Mama Summer School of sorts, to help YOU brush up on your skills AND your mindset around running your business and raising your kids.
The good news? All these things already exist for you…I’m just sifting through the archives and finding some…Golden nuggets, if you will (forgive me, I’ve been in an RV with 3 kids and a dog for a couple of weeks now).
There’s so much noise out there about how you need to have aaallll the things before you can start freelancing…but you really don’t, in many instances. Check out the video above and see for yourself!
If you’ve been hanging around the Free Mama community, taking it all in, but still haven’t started your business…can I ask why not?
Yes, I have a paid program that helps moms start their freelance business, but you don’t HAVE to take my course in order to begin. I could name many women right off the top of my head who have hugely successful businesses and are part of the Free Mama community, but have never taken my course!
I know the kids are home for the summer and you might be traveling or have activities to keep up with, but don’t forget about your own goals, okay?
You deserve Guilt free living
Free Mama Summer School will give you snippets of some of my past trainings and lessons, allow you to brush up on your skills and mindset, so you can get a little closer each day to having the totally awesome, guilt-free life you deserve!
Do you get sweaty palms and a shaky voice when it’s time to tell a prospective client how much you charge for your freelance work? What about when it’s something you don’t have much experience in?
Mama, the topic of money and how to price your services as a beginner is one of the most common questions among freelancers…but it doesn’t have to be as scary or overwhelming as it might seem.
First up on the Free Mama menu today is…
APPETIZERS

What if I told you that you are probably leaving LOTS of clients (and money!) on the table?
What if I told you there is one TRULY EASY thing you can do to get MORE clients with LESS work?
Also, it’s totally free. And it takes far less time than you think.
It’s actually NOT magic — but it does kind of feel like it is.
Ready for the big reveal?
FOLLOW UP WITH PEOPLE.
Business owners are busy people. They’re often overwhelmed. Also, they might have some fear around hiring a virtual assistant or outsourcing work. So they put it off.
Your job is to follow up after your initial contact or conversation and make it really, really easy for them to say yes.
For example, you send an email to a prospect who told you she is struggling to get her invoices out in a timely manner, so her cash flow is suffering. You hear nothing. This is not unusual.
Most people will tell themselves, “I don’t want to bother her. If she wants to work with me, she’ll let me know.”
But YOU are not most people. YOU are a Free Mama, and you know that your prospect is busy. So you follow up. You say,
Hi, Potential client!
Do you still want my help fixing your cash flow problems? I’m ready to start right away. All you have to do is use this link to sign your contract and pay your first invoice. By the end of the week, you could have an extra $2500 in your bank account!
Notice that you didn’t say, “Hi Potential Client, I’m following up on our conversation from the other week.“
BORING! Make it about WHAT YOUR POTENTIAL CLIENT WILL GET.
And make it easy — one link. One step. One task. That’s it!
When you follow up, you set yourself apart from the competition. You get MORE clients with LESS work. And you grow your business. WIN-WIN-WIN.
I am just north of Denver, Colorado on the “2nd Annual Freedom Tour” AKA our Golden Family RV Trip. Last year you may remember our trip was a mess and we made A LOT of mistakes! It’s all on my Instagram, seriously check it out, I documented each and every hilarious moment.
My husband and I learned so much from that trip, which made us so much wiser and prepared to do things a little bit differently this time.
It is the same in your freelance business! Instead of stressing about getting everything right the first time or, worse, not taking action until it’s perfect, I encourage you to take action, learn from your mistakes (there will be mistakes) and grow wiser from it.
In this episode, we are talking about making mistakes and how those mistakes make us wiser, as long as you learn a lesson from it.
In Today’s Episode We Discuss:
Taking messy action
Why making mistakes is a good thing (and inevitable)
The difference between making mistakes and learning from them
How everyone makes mistakes (you’re not alone!)
Did ya’ll see the email that is going around about the HBO intern that made a big mistake and sent out an internal email to the public? This intern is getting supported not only by HBO for the mistake but also by the public. People in all types of fields are supporting this intern and they’re sharing big mistakes they made and learned from.
Every action or messy action you take and the mistakes you make, you will learn from. Like knowing what to charge for services, this is a huge question and topic in Free Mama Movement. What do I charge? If you charge too little, you learn from it, and you increase your prices. You’re now wiser from this and won’t make that “mistake” again.
We can go down the “what if” road all day, but if you don’t take action you’ll never gain the knowledge that only comes from experience required to be truly successful.

Well, Mama, in case you haven’t heard, the Goldens hit the road again, and as you read this I am somewhere in the western half of the United States and I may or may not have any Internet access.
Here’s what I DO have for you today: Lessons.
Specifically, lessons that I’ve learned in the RV apply to business, because YES, I can make EVERYTHING about business. It’s a gift.
So here we go:
1. Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up.
When we started this trip last year, we had very specific goals in mind. There was an itinerary, a plan, maps — the works. We had to get it right, see it all, and BE TOGETHER enjoying ourselves DAGNABBIT.
I have to remind myself — frequently — to pause, and to feel the pause. Sometimes, you feel like there’s this wide-open road ahead of you, and why would you not just push hard on the gas and GO full steam ahead?
If you do that, you’re going to miss the amazing views along the way. You’ll miss the tiny sign pointing out the roadside market where you can buy the most delicious cherries or the ridiculously campy souvenir that will make you smile every time you see it for the rest of your life.
We can stay places for a few days instead of just rolling on by because the schedule says we have to GO NOW!
We can actually throw the schedule away and enjoy the journey.
What are you racing towards? And does it really matter if you get there a week or a month later than planned if you get to sing along to the entire Britney Spears discography on the way?
2. Give yourself room to grow and learn.
We made a lot of mistakes during last year’s RV trip. Like, A LOT. At the time, these mistakes caused great heartache, lots of yelling, and a not-insignificant amount of money. When you’re in the middle of a learning opportunity, it can be hard to appreciate it. It’s a lot easier to give in to frustration. To cry. To vow that you’re NEVER EVER going to do this again.
This year, when we look back, we can laugh about some of it. More importantly, we’ve LEARNED a lot, and so we don’t have to make those same mistakes again. This paves the way for us to make NEW AND BETTER mistakes. And it means that we’re growing.
You WILL make mistakes as you build and grow your business. That’s just a fact that comes along with being human. What matters most is that you LEARN from your mistakes and that you give yourself room to grow.
3. Create the space you need.
RVs are not that large. My whole family is living in one, so we have a lot of together time. We still need to carve out ways for each person to have their own space when needed. Sometimes, we create “space” with headphones and closed eyes. Sometimes we get out of the car and spend time doing our own thing for a bit. And sometimes, we all get up close and personal with each other.
You can grow your business from a dedicated office or from a corner of the couch. Thousands of people all over the world have started great things from small and humble spaces.
Community is awesome — critical, in my opinion. You need people around you who get it. You always have support in The FreeMama Movement FB Group.
And sometimes, you need to put on your headphones, close your eyes, and block out the world.
Give yourself the space you need to build the business of YOUR dreams.
Starting your freelance business is exciting, mama!
You have a whole world 🌎 of possibilities — what services you can offer 🤨, what type of clients you’ll work with 🤔…not to mention all the cool pens ✒️and Post-It Notes 📓you could buy.
Oh, and there’s also things like setting up your financial systems, 😬 business entities, 😳branding, 😫 software, 😱 and the list goes on.
It can get overwhelming quickly, and I’m here to help you determine the stuff that’s ACTUALLY important for setting up your business, and which stuff will just make you go crazy for now.
Let’s kick it off like we always do, with…

In Today’s Episode We Discuss:
Taking Action
Showing Up
Being Consistent
Know Who Benefits from Your Services
Simplify and Be Specific
Let me just tell you a little about this amazing Mama, Michelle has made half a million dollars from her Facebook group…and counting.
When she says she knows how to grow an audience that makes you 6-figures, she means it. Growing her own group was a total game-changer for her business. It gave her the freedom and security she had been searching for when she left her 9-5 nearly five years ago.
With a 15-year background in marketing & public relations, Michelle has the skills and knowledge to help other talented rockstars get to 6-figures in their business. That starts with her proven framework for growing an engaged Facebook group that makes you a 6-figure business owner. Michelle’s no-nonsense, tough-love approach helps her clients get results fast. If you want a kick in the pants to get moving (and the accountability to go with it), then Michelle is the perfect coach for you.
Michelle shares that having her son is what made her decide to actually take the leap of faith and start her own business, she has always wanted her own business but shares, “there is no perfect time to start a business and it never goes as you plan, it unfolds along the way.”
We are talking about being transparent and willing to make mistakes, and you have to be willing to change your relationship with failure. Honestly, failures are what help strengthen your business, and the reality is these challenges or failures don’t go away they change as your business grows.
Your confidence builds as you strive towards taking action, showing up, and being consistent. When your business and the people you serve become more important than your fear, you really become more confident.
Now, how do you get the ideal client and who are they? Here are three down and dirty tips Michelle gives to people starting out; Tell people what you do, Show up in groups, and create a list of complimentary fellow entrepreneurs and talk to them.
Michelle has given us her; 5 Steps To Get Clients Like A Boss, which I highly recommend you check out and her like to her Facebook Group Market Like A Boss. Both of these amazing resources are linked below.
A bit of advice Michelle shares, “You’re going to fall down, you have to decide if you get back up. You’re the one that determines your success, Trust Yourself” and the mic drop moment … “If you’re avoiding falling down, you’re probably playing too small”

You might already know this, mama, but this Sunday is Father’s Day, and I thought it would be fun to take a moment to honor the very brave men in our very pink community.
Imagine that you’ve been the breadwinner for your family, and then, oh, I don’t know, A GLOBAL PANDEMIC HITS.
And suddenly, you’re out of a job and you’re googling “work from home jobs for dads”.
Along with the very real fear for your family’s health and wellbeing, you’re also suddenly confronting the loss of your identity. You’ve always been the person who provides for your family, and when that’s abruptly taken away from you, you really do question who you are.
Maybe it’s also kind of hard for you to talk about your feelings, or you never had good role models for that.
Somehow — and you never can quite figure out how — you wind up clicking on a very pink Facebook ad, and suddenly people are calling you a Free Papa, (although every single email you get seems to call you Mama at least once 🙄), and you find that you’re enjoying yourself.
You start to build up your confidence, and you’re ready to make a go of this freelance life.
And that’s when it happens.
A job offer comes through.
The kind with health insurance and a 401k. The kind that you prayed for a few months ago.
The kind that will keep your family safe.
So you have to put your freelance business owner dreams on hold — which makes you feel like you’ve failed.
YOU HAVE NOT FAILED.
You haven’t quit. It’s not game over — it’s just time to pump the brakes a little, to hit pause and re-evaluate.
When we start a business, we want so badly for our growth to be fast and furious. But that’s not the way life works. Think about a roller coaster — it loops and it spins. Sometimes it’s a big drop. Sometimes it’s a little hill.
There is no struggle-free life.
Your job is to find the good parts of the WHOLE ride. Enjoy the curves, enjoy the view from every angle and be an active participant in every moment of it.
I’m insanely proud of ALL the Free Papas, including the OG Free Papa, Mr. Justin Golden, who went on his own journey.
For a while, I tried to be his coach and lead him down the path I thought was best for him. Yeah, that did NOT go well.
You know what did work? Getting out of his way and letting him decide his OWN path. And now, here he is, coaching Free Mamas #likeaboss.
Happy Father’s Day to ALL the Free Papas in our lives. We see you, and we love you.
Why aren’t you hitting your goals? Maybe it’s not what you think it is! Think about this for a second, do you ever feel like your frustrated and mad that you are not hitting your goals? This is for you! “So, listen up!”
In this episode, I am talking about why you may not be hitting your goals and it may be surprising to you the reasons why you aren’t. We are diving in and discussing some of the “ah-ha” moments I realized from my trip to San Diego!
In Today’s Episode We Discuss:
What is a strategic vision
Are you focusing on the wrong goals
Break down your goal, realistically (small pieces)
Get Aligned with what fuels you
How do you know what your strategic goals are? How do you know when you are in alignment with your business vision? I am sharing my take away from this weeks mastermind event I attended.
I know my mission why I started my business. Honestly ya’ll can probably say it right along with me. I mean, we know why we got started. I know how I felt in the beginning, what I wanted, what I cared about, and what I like doing, you do too!
As a result of the amazing discussions and insight that was shared with me, I realized I was not in alignment with what my passion is. I was focusing on the wrong goals. I am sharing some great tips and moments from this amazing trip!
We are talking about how to break things down into smaller pieces and get in alignment with what fuels you in your business! Listen, “what you focus on grows” We gotta focus on the right stuff.
