For the last few months, I’ve been working with a small group of women who decided that it was time to step into their own stories.

These women all started out with the idea of finding a way to earn some money from home. They were done with the network marketing, over spending too many hours away from their kids, and ready for something more.

And they got what they wanted — they built up successful businesses that brought them in steady income. $3000, $4000, and even $5000 a month. 

But then something strange happened. 

These women realized that they were really only in the very first chapter of their stories, and that there was so much more they could do.

So, over the past three months, the women of the Movement Maker Accelerator have completely rewritten their lives, and I cannot even tell you how astounding it is to watch them move forward, take action, and do things they didn’t even dream about just a year ago.

Like Mindy, who was earning money as a Free Mama, but was holding herself back. The work we did in the Movement Maker helped her knock down the barriers she was throwing in her own way. She created smart systems, learned to outsource the work that’s not in her Zone of Genius — and just had a $21,000 month.

What kind of difference would $21,000 make in your life?

And then there’s Noemi, who actually didn’t go through the 12-week program. She built her freelancing business using the free resources in the Facebook group, the YouTube channel, and the Free Mama website. 

But she wanted more — so she jumped into the Movement Maker, launched an online course, and SOLD OUT her beta launch. In fact, she just hired her own VA.

These are just two of the success stories we’ve celebrated, mama. I could fill this email with pages and pages of awesomeness, but I don’t just want to tell you about women who are making it happen. 

I want to help you BECOME that woman. To know that your story is just starting, and that YOU are the author of it. It can go in whatever direction you want — you just have to be willing to pick up the (figurative) pen.

A few days ago, I was on a coaching call with a student. She was flustered and stressed and clearly unhappy. She had a lot of potential work coming her way, but much of it wasn’t the work she wanted to do.

Saying yes to every client felt like the responsible thing to do, but it was making her miserable, and it was keeping her from moving forward in her business the way she wanted to.

She wanted to turn down the clients who weren’t a good fit, but she felt like she needed permission for that.

Another mama I talked to was on the flip side. She desperately wanted to pursue a project she knew she could do — but she’d never done that type of work before. So she felt like she wasn’t allowed to go after it. She needed permission to pitch the client.

I told both of these incredible women two things:

1. They didn’t need permission — from me or from anyone else — to do or not do the things that they wanted.
2. Even though they didn’t need permission, I gave them permission. 

In both cases, the relief was instant. A few tears may have been shed — which is totally normal, and absolutely part of the process.

So, right now, Mama, I want you to know that I am officially signing your permission slip, too. Give yourself permission to live a big life.

You have permission. You have permission to say no to the work you don’t want to do, to the class mom position you don’t want to take, to the cooking or cleaning you’d rather outsource. You have permission to say no without guilt. 

You have permission to go after the work you want, even if you’ve never done it before. Even if you don’t have tangible proof you can do it. 

And let’s be clear — it’s not that I’m giving you permission. It’s YOUR OWN permission to make the decisions you need to make.

The amazing Kathryn Jones was recently talking about being the CEO of your life and your business. You ARE the boss of your business and your life, and you can choose to show up as that version of yourself — or you can choose to be scared, and to wait for permission to do the things you want to do. 

The thing is, the only person who can truly give you that permission… 

… is you. 

So sign that permission slip, Mama, and show up as the best version of yourself. Give yourself permission to live a big life.

Swim team, mama. It was quite a trip. And there’s this thing my Daphne and Henry did that made me #crazypants all season long.

Picture this: they’re swimming. They’re racing. They’re near the finish line — and they suddenly STOP to check out where everyone else is. 

It’s enough to make you want to tear your hair out when you’re watching from the sidelines, because in that moment when my kids literally stop to check out the competition — the competition overtakes them. 

Daphne gave up TWO first place ribbons this season, all because she forgot to keep swimming.

I’ve seen a few mamas struggling lately. They’re trying SO hard to land clients, and it’s just not happening. Maybe that’s you. You’re just not sure how to stay focused on your goals

Like my kids, nearly every one of these mamas is making a BIG mistake, and watching from the sidelines, I’m totally desperate to just jump in the pool and drag them to the finish line.

And that’s the key, Mama. When you have a potential client, you can’t stop swimming until you actually touch the wall. 

So, if you have a discovery call, and then the client doesn’t send you a contract the next day, you don’t give up. 

You don’t say, “Well, I don’t want to bother her.”

Instead, you follow up, and you keep following up until you get a definite answer. 

You stick a reminder in your calendar, and once a week, you follow up and say, “Hey, I’m just checking in, because I know how swamped you are. You said you hoped to start by the end of this month. Is that still what you want?”

(Note: Yes, there is a fine line between followup and stalker. 

Once a week is fine, if the client hasn’t given you instructions NOT to follow up.)

You keep swimming, and you don’t get distracted by what other people are doing around you.  This is how to stay focused on your goals!

You know how I tell you to put a bow on it? That applies even when you don’t have the job yet. Make it super, super easy for her to hire you. Tell her, “I know you’re overwhelmed. Would it help if I did ________? I could do that for $_______ as a trial, and you could see how you feel and how we work together — and you’d get [super annoying task] off your plate.”

Get her to the finish line, Mama. Touch the wall. 

That first place medal has your name on it.

I had a bit of a pity party for myself the other day, mama

The day started pretty well, actually — I was checking a few details for an upcoming FreeMama Meetup, and I was pretty excited about it. 

And then, in the space of ten minutes, I got two emails and three comments demanding to know why I hadn’t scheduled a meetup in [insert random city here].

I’ll be honest — it stung. I’ve committed to a FreeMama Meetup every single month this year, and I’ve put a lot of time and effort into making that happen. But the reality is that 12 Meetups = 12 cities, and there are more than 12 cities in the United States. 

I can’t be everywhere — and I can’t please everyone. And for a few minutes there, I felt awful about it. 

And then I jumped on a coaching call with an incredible Free Mama who told me about a potential client who made her feel guilty for not offering a specific service. 

“You can’t please everyone,” I told her. “And you don’t need to. You’ve gotten super clear on what you offer, and that’s fantastic. With your services, you’re appealing to a specific market, which will make it much easier for those people to say yes to you. Don’t worry about the people who are never going to be happy.”

And then I had a slightly out-of-body experience, as I heard myself speaking – “Stop trying to please everyone.”

We’re amazingly fortunate that we have a community that is packed with action takers. There are mamas who have overcome real hardship to build their businesses. There are mamas who have crossed state lines to come to a Meetup. There are mamas who are in the trenches daily, doing the work and making things happen.

I show up for these mamas — for you, mama — every day. And I do it with love and respect and passion for your success.

But I can’t please everyone. There will always be people who won’t like my message, who will want me to do things differently. 

You can’t please everyone, either — and you don’t need to try.  Stop trying to please everyone.

What you’re doing is right for you and your people, and that’s absolutely enough. YOU are enough. 

Let go of the people you can’t please, and focus on being the most amazing version of yourself, and stop trying to please everyone.
