Courage and Confidence

Do you ever feel like you’re failing? Failing as a mom? And as a businesswoman? I know those thoughts can happen but in today’s episode, we are going to find out how to push them to the curb!

As you know, here at the Free Mama we are all about living a totally guilt-free life, so I’m so excited to be joined today by the lovely Sara Dean to talk to us about being a shameless mom.

Sara is the host of the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast. Her passion is helping women own their space. After enduring her own identity crisis following the birth of her son, Sarah took her background in psychology, health, and wellness and rebuilt her identity one step at a time. Sarah motivates and inspires women to stop shrinking and start shining. She is on a mission to inspire women, and moms in particular, to live bigger, bolder, and braver every damn day.

In this episode we’re getting into the nitty gritty of what it means to be a shameless mom, the magic of finding your zone of genius, how to cultivate courage and confidence and so much more.

In Today’s Episode We Discuss:

  • What it means to be a shameless mom
  • Overcoming an identity crisis
  • Building a business around your zone of genius
  • Choosing to do things that are scary
  • Cultivating courage
  • Remembering that you’ve already done hard things
  • The importance of testing
  • Learning from things that feel like failures
  • The value of having a morning routine that works for you

This is a lady who has overcome so many things with grace, and has so much value to share. What a gem to have on the podcast with us! I hope this episode helps you to cultivate courage and confidence in your life and business!

Here’s what the most successful Free Mamas have in common!

What about vacation time?

I kind of felt like the question smacked me in the face, mama. Like, I actually recoiled from my screen when I read it.

I get a lot of people asking me what it takes to be a Free Mama. And the actual skill you need to be a freelancer might surprise you!
via Harlem Globetrotters on GIPHy

Because this question indicates that you’re thinking like an employee — and not like a Free Mama.

Over the past few years, I’ve had the honor of helping thousands of women start their freelancing careers, and I’ve noticed that the most successful Free Mamas share three critical qualities.

When you’re a Free Mama, skill you need to be a freelancer? You have to be self-motivated, because no one will ever come and check up to see if you’re at your desk and doing your work.

On the plus side, no one will ever come and check up to see if you’re at your desk and doing your work. 😉

But you have to be honest with yourself.

  • Will you sit down and do the work even when no one is checking up on you?
  • Do you want the responsibility that comes with being a freelancer?
  • Will you hold yourself accountable?

If you’re not going to be responsible and accountable to yourself, then freelancing may not be the best choice for you.

Successful Free Mamas are also go-getters, meaning they are willing to go out there and get the work, the clients, and the projects.

They’re willing to get visible, even when it makes them uncomfortable. Even when it scares them. Even when they’re shy and introverted, they get out there and talk to people about what they do and how they can help.

When you’re a freelancer, no one is going to drop a project on your desk and tell you to get it done. It’s up to you to find the work, and you can only do that if you’re going to build connections with potential clients.

If you’re not going to talk to anyone, then where will you get the clients?

And finally, the most successful Free Mamas have stamina. When things go wrong, they don’t give up.

They get up, again and again.

They show up every day.

They see challenges as opportunities for growth, and not as reasons to quit.

If you’re going to see every setback as a sign that you shouldn’t be doing this, you’ll be stuck at the starting line for a long time.

Again and again, these three qualities show up in the Free Mamas who go the furthest. Success has nothing to do with degrees or education. It’s not about certifications or what you did before you had kids or where you grew up.

It’s about being self-motivated, getting the work, and having the stamina to keep going, every single day.

If you’ve got those qualities, you have what it takes to be a Free Mama.

So… what are you waiting for?

P.S. Seriously, Mama. If you have what it takes, then it’s time to start your journey.

P.P.S. Do you suffer from overthinking? You won’t want to miss this Free Mama Radio episode!

STOP juggling everything

Uh, mama?

There’s no way you can keep all those balls in the air forever.

25: Stop Overthinking and Start Taking Action in Your Business with Stacy Tuschl

Do ever stop and think about whether your business is growing in the direction you want it to? Are you working with a goal in mind?

Only you have the power to create the life you want.

Today’s guest, Stacy Tuschl, has made a name for herself as an expert in growing small businesses. Put it this way: Stacey started her own business at the age of 18 in her parents’ backyard and turned the company into a multimillion-dollar business that she still runs today. Her business, the Academy of Performing Arts, has two locations in her home state of Wisconsin. In addition to being a small business growth coach, Stacy is a best-selling author and founder of the Foot Traffic Formula. She helps small businesses around the world get more customers in the door, more profit in their pockets, and more happiness in their homes.

In this episode, we’re going to talk about her journey from backyard to multimillion-dollar business and what she has learned along the way. We’re getting into marketing, time management, life goals, and how Stacy teaches her clients to grow their businesses.

In Today’s Episode We Discuss:

  • The value of time management
  • The way we market has adapted to different platforms over the years
  • Building a business that runs without you
  • Pivoting our business approaches to adapt to COVID
  • Why you should not be afraid to experiment
  • The value of identifying a need and acting on it
  • The three Ts of the Foot Traffic Formula
  • What traffic is and why it’s important for your business
  • Why tracking is the secret sauce
  • Working smarter, not harder

Isn’t Stacy just such a powerhouse of a woman? I’m so excited that we got to have her as a special guest on Free Mama Radio so she could share some of her wisdom with us. I hope you got something valuable from this episode, especially if you are just starting out! Remember: nothing is ever perfect.  The important thing is that you take action and pivot along the way!

I’m also super excited about Stacy’s new book, The Implementation Code, which you can get for FREE right now at www.implementationcode.co/freebook. You’ll just pay shipping and handling, so definitely a deal you don’t want to miss!

What REALLY defines your success

How do you define success, mama?

Do you think about how much money you bring in each month?

How many hours you work each week?

How much you get done in a day?

Well, let me tell you how your CLIENTS define success: by the results you deliver for them.

Now, we’re going to dig into an unpopular opinion. You might get mad when you hear this. You might want to unsubscribe and go soothe yourself with inspirational quotes from Pinterest and find a Facebook group where you can talk about how mean I am.

Do you know how to define success? Lauren Golden of The Free Mama is telling you what really defines success and how to deliver.
via Schitt’s Creek on GIPHY

That’s cool — I’m well aware that not everyone agrees with me.

But.

Inspirational quotes and vision boards and your commitment to working 2 hours a week will not pay the bills, Mama.

You are only as good as the work you produce for your clients.

You’re running a business here.

And (this is the unpopular opinion part) people telling you to “charge what you’re worth” may not have your best interests at heart.

Now, let me be super clear about a few things.

  1. I want you to make a LOT of money doing work you love.
  2. When you first start out, you might not have a lot of experience.
  3. You have to EARN those high paying clients by showing up and delivering VALUE.

If you’ve just discovered the wonderful world of freelancing (and it truly is a wonderful world), you’re probably pretty darn excited.

You’re getting PAID to manage email, to schedule appointments, to edit photos. It’s AMAZING.

At some point, you might start to crave… a little more. You see people around you selling courses or coaching others and you think, “Huh. I want that.” That’s normal — and totally awesome.

BUT.  If you spend all your time and effort working on the course you want to launch or planning for your new coaching business, that’s time you’re NOT spending on the work your clients are paying you to do — which is NOT going to work out well.

If you’re being paid to create graphics or schedule social media posts or write copy or organize an inbox, and you find yourself resentful of that work, that’s on you.

You took on those clients.

You accepted the terms.

You didn’t set clear boundaries.

It’s not okay to simply stop showing up or to do shoddy work.

If you’re unhappy handling clients and want to move on to the next phase of your business, then be a grown up businesswoman.

TALK to your clients. Put a bow on your final project, and hand over your responsibilities in a responsible way.

Whew!

That was a lot, and I guess it was weighing on me pretty heavily.

I don’t mean to scare you away — and this email might not speak to where you are in the journey AT ALL.

But I’ve been in that place. I’ve been in the place where my client work didn’t fill me up in the same way it used to, and so I recognize it when I see it in others.

You didn’t come this far, and build this life and reputation and business to tear it down with resentment.

Show up. Be a grown-up. And keep the focus on the results you deliver.

Did you know you can get PAID for this?

It’s like my greatest dream came true.

Okay, picture this, mama:

You’re reading through an email when you come across a typo that makes you flinch.

Or you’re rolling your eyes at yet another Facebook post where someone can’t grasp the difference between their, there, and they’re.

Or your husband asks you to give his resume a once-over, because he knows that you’ll catch any tiny errors that remain.

If reading those sentences has your heart beating a bit faster, then you HAVE to get yourself over to the YouTubes right now because you can proofread anywhere AND make money doing it!

Today on FreeMamaTV, I’m interviewing Caitlin Pyle, founder of Proofread Anywhere, about how you can get paid to correct other people.

You can make money proofreading with online proofreading jobs? If you're looking for work from home jobs that pay well watch this Caitlyn Pyle interview!

24: Live Events: The Ticket to Breaking Through in Your Business

Live Events

Have you ever been to a live event? If you just answered no, I am going to rock your world.

In this episode of Free Mama Radio, I’m going to tell you the three reasons why I absolutely MUST attend events in order to grow my business.

As a little background for you, my very first side hustle as an adult was as an event planner. So evidently, I’ve always loved events. I know it’s kind of a crazy time for events right now, and although there a lot of things I miss about in-person events, online events are really fantastic too. In some ways, even better!

In today’s episode we cover the three reasons that I try to make sure I’m attending an event every single quarter.

In Today’s Episode We Discuss:

  • The community that can be found at events
  • The value of having time away from family and client work
  • The benefits of being in a different environment
  • Why your business cannot be bigger than your mindset
  • How attending an event will make you feel filled up and recharged
  • What I’m doing to make sure that Free Mama Live is even better than last year

Seriously, if you’ve never been to a live event, I cannot recommend it enough. If you’re struggling to move forward in your business, a live event will facilitate the mindset shift that needs to happen. Just like we discussed in the episode, your business can never be bigger than your mindset.

If you are someone who’s been feeling deflated, alone, or just so tired of working IN your business instead of ON your business, I want to invite you to join us at Free Mama Live! October 1st is the last day to get your tickets to make sure you get your swag box before the event! Go to  www.freemamalive.com/2020 to snag them before it’s too late!
